Comedian Chris Rock undertakes a quest to discover the nature of African American hair culture in this hilarious and poignant documentary from veteran TV writer Jeff Stilson. When provoked by his crying daughter, distraught that she doesn’t understand why she doesn’t have “good hair,” Rock sets out on a journey to get to bottom of the big business that is black hair and people who profit from it. From national styling battles to scientific laboratories, Rock travels all over the world in an uproarious comedic search for the answers to how black hair stylings effect everything from sex to wallet size to self-esteem. Stilson’s precise camerawork and sense of comedic timing, paired with Rock’s wit, serve to lighten the mood in an otherwise very serious situation. Featuring a laundry list of celebrity interviews that includes Ice-T, Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Maya Angelou, Salt N Pepa and Reverend Al Sharpton, Good Hair is a candidly honest look at the societal and racial pressures that will often cause people to spend thousands of dollars and risk their health, all for the right look. –– Michael Lerman

What can I say? I love Chris Rock and its hard not to love this film! HIghly entertaining and insightful. Chris Rock's brand of piercing humor is edgy yet not mean spirited. He examines all aspects what it means to have "good hair" in the black culture with in a way that he cringes and embraces at the same time never letting us forget for a moment where his roots (not pun intended!) are.
